Three levels of green paint are defined

first, total organic volatilization (VOC) of paint

organic volatiles pose direct harm to our environment, our society and human beings. Paint is the second largest source of pollution in modern society. The first pollution source is brought by transportation industry, such as automobile exhaust, oil penetration, etc. Therefore, more and more attention has been paid to the environmental pollution caused by coatings. In 1967, the Los Angeles area of the United States implemented 66 regulations to limit the solvent capacity of coatings. Since then, foreign countries have increasingly restricted the amount of solvent in coatings. At the beginning, only some solvents that can produce photochemical reactions were restricted, but later it was found that almost all solvents can produce photochemical reactions, except water, acetone, etc. Therefore, some commonly used solvents such as toluene, xylene, butanone, acetate, etc. are all limited, and ethanol is no exception. In short, we should try to reduce the amount of these solvents

second, the toxicity of solvents

refers to those solvents that can cause disease after contact with human body or inhalation. Benzene and methanol, as we all know, are toxic solvents. Ethylene glycol ethers used to be a common solvent for water-based coating (fatigue resistance). In the 1970s, it was widely used as a non-toxic solvent, but in the early 1980s, it was found that ethylene glycol ethers were a highly toxic solvent. At that time, such solvents in the laboratory were absorbed and strictly prohibited from use. For example, polyvinylpyrrolidone is a kind of artificial plasma with large friction or no rotation when the force measuring piston rotates. The monomer vinyl pyrrolidone used to be considered as a non-toxic chemical. In the late 1980s, I introduced it to the light curing coating industry, thinking that it is an active monomer with high dilution efficiency and high polymerization speed, and the paint film obtained by using it as an active diluent has excellent performance. But it was soon found that it was a carcinogen, so it was banned. Toxic solvents will cause direct harm to production and construction personnel

third, user safety

generally speaking, after the coating is dried, its solvent basically ensures the quality of particles that can volatilize, but this requires a process, especially for the coating cured at room temperature. Some solvents volatilize very slowly. Although the amount of these solvents is small, due to the long-term contact of users, if the solvent is toxic, it will also cause harm to human health. Therefore, the use of toxic solvents must be limited during preparation
